And so the journey begins….
Welcome to the first blog of ‘Lipstick Lingo’!
I have created this page for many reasons, but mostly to communicate with all the ladies out there wondering about health, nutrition, surviving after cancer and MUCH more.
I’m in my 40th year and have had quite the journey getting here and have lots to share that I believe, will be beneficial to some, irrelevant to others…and that’s ok!
Let me do a super quick intro….
This is myself, my hubby John and our 10 year old Jack Russell, Scoob!
I met John a lifetime ago at the gym and we’ve been married for 10 years already! We never had kids of our own but I am blessed with 2 wicked step kids who are 21 and 25!
John and I own a CrossFit box and also run an obstacle adventure race.
We are both passionate about fitness and health and love to lift heavy ‘stuff’ ;)
I am by NO means a writer and you will see that this reflects in my blogs as ‘I write as I speak’…literally!
That’s enough for now.
Here is what I really want to talk about….
I will be 40 this year and will be celebrating the 11th year since I was diagnosed with Stage I, Grade III breast cancer. Is it really a celebration? I’m not sure. I guess yes, I will be celebrating that I have lived thru it all to tell and lets face it….there is a real beauty to having lived.
I think I have had a few “ah ha” moments as I neared my 40th year. You see, when your diagnosed with a disease, you tend to truck on thru and just do as your told. And then when you’re done treatments and surgeries, you either (a) reflect and deal with the craziness that just happened in your life OR (b) go back to life as normal and pretend all that crap didn’t just happen.
At some point you have to ‘deal’ with stuff right? At last that’s what I’m told!?
I had both of my boobies removed back in 2006, along with my nipples and areola’s …… 10 years later and I am realizing I kinda miss those guys.
Approx 2 years ago I had my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed…..and have been learning how to deal with hormone balance. Nothing like going to sleep at the age of 38 feeling completely normal and then waking up feeling like a total basket case. You go from complete hormone balance to full-on menopause in a matter of hours.
It’s THESE kind of topics I will chat about on this page….and more, such as:
What menopause is and how to cope
How to get back into the gym after a traumatic surgery
How to deal with being a BRCA1 carrier and dealing with cancer diagnosis
Fitness and Health ideas
